Colunga

Strolling down one of the many attractive streets in Colunga

This very attractive small town on the Costa Verde is situated West of Villaviciosa and East of Llanes, it is very well connected by the coastal motorway giving good access to both Santander and Asturias airports which both have regular Easyjet and Ryanair flights to and from Stanstead.

The Colunga District is located in the north eastern zone of Asturias, bordering in the North with the Cantabrian sea, in the South with the districts of Parres and Piloña, in the east with Caravia and in the West with Villaviciosa.

Flanked by sea and mountain, it presents a vivid contrast between its mountains and its coastline.

Colunga District Council tourism has produced a web-site which gives a very thorough, interesting and informative overview of the amenities, environment and the main attractions of the area, there are lots!

For example there are fine beaches such as La Isla, Griega, and Lastres, a multitude of traditional restaurants. The area is dominated the impressive Sueve mountains where the wild ‘Asturcone’ ponies still roam. From the Fito Mirador we have a 360 degree view of the coast, the Picos de Europa and the whole Cordillera Cantábrica stretching West towards Galicia; considered by many to be one of the most beautiful vistas in the whole of Northern Spain.

Colunga is an ideal base for all manner of exciting activities, surfing, horse riding, fishing, mountaineering, biking, rock climbing, sailing, canoeing and coastal walking. There is a particularly beautiful coastal walk between La Isla and Playa de la Griega.

In the middle of Colunga is a very informative and helpful tourism information center.
