Gijón
Gijon San Lorenzo beach.
Gijón is an exciting, vibrant city on the Atlantic Ocean and is the largest city in the Asturian Principality. It is only thirty minutes from Asturias Airport and has excellent new motorway links with the rest of the region. An hour’s drive takes you to San Isidro Ski Resort, half an hour to Oviedo and forty five minutes to the heart of the Redes Natural park where you can exchange the bustle of city life for the peace and quiet of the countryside. The road systems also connect well to the rest of Spain.
The elegant shopping centre is centred around quaint cobbled streets and colourful plazas and there is some fine architecture. Throughout the city you can find excellent restaurants and bars. There is a diverse and interesting programme of leisure and cultural events that take place both on and off the streets including the Gijón International Film Festival, black novel week the , jazz, gospel events, good cinema and the Euro Ye Ye Festival
In addition to it’s own very fine Urban beach San Lorenzo
It can be great fun watching the surfers testing their skills against the huge waves that sometimes pound the beach during the Winter months although there are many quieter idyllic beaches easily accessible from the city.
