Midway between Gijon and Santander and slightly to the west of Llanes,
we find Ribadesella a very attractive port and fishing town. It’s situation on the estuary of the River Sella is spectacular, commanding wonderful views of the Picos de Europa. Because of its location and beautiful old quarter this town is popular with summer tourists.

The yearly international canoe race, Descenso del Sella finishes in the town every August; a great festive event.

Ribadesella has two clearly distinguishable sides: the east, which is the site of the old town, and the west, which is where you will find the excellent beach.

Another highlight of Ribadesella are the prehistoric Tito Bustillo caves. Discovered only in the 1960s, they house fine examples of prehistoric cave painting. Similar to Altamira, the cave is as remarkable for its stalactites as it is for its paintings.

Food is a feature in the town: local seafood, markets with homemade cheeses small goods and crafts. As always there is the excellent traditional cider, or try the truly magnificent tempranillo from the Ribero de Duero area.

It’s closest airport is Santander just under an hours drive and Asturias airport around an hour and a half drive, both are served well by Easyjet and Ryanair. Gijon and Oviedo the region’s capitol are both around one hours drive.

The town is ideally located for all manner of outdoor activities especially canoeing, sailing, fishing, rock climbing, sailing, surfing and golf.
