Villaviciosa is situated on the central eastern coastline, and borders the Asturian municipalities of Gijón and Siero to the West, Sariego, Nava, Cabranes and Piloña to the South, to Colunga on the East and of course the Atlantic’s Bay of Biscay to the North. It is considered one of the most attractive coastal areas in Asturias.
The area is especially well connected via the A8, the coastal motorway of Asturias. It is just half an hour drive from both Gijón and the capital of Asturias Oviedo. The airport of Asturias, a forty five minute drive has daily Easyjet flights to and from London.
The area is defined by the estuary which opens widely near Tazonés, between the beaches of El Puntal and Rodilles. It gradually narrows up to the town of Villaviciosa itself. The whole of the estuary is recognised and protected as an area great beauty and natural environmental diversity.
This part of the coast has some superb quiet beaches such as Playa de la Griega, Playa la Isla, Rodillés just to name a few. It is an ideal base for activities such as surfing, canoeing, sailing, mountain walking, horse riding, rock climbing, fishing and mountain biking.
Villaviciosa is at the centre of Spain’s apple and cider industry and is noted for it’s fine Gastronomy. For example visit the pretty fishing village of Tazonés for a wide choice of restaurants serving deliciously fresh fish.
The Town of Villaviciosa has all modern amenities and also an old quarter with some interesting historic buildings and a number of nice cafes, bars and restaurants.
